Portsmouth District This is a point of an Island of Sand Banks situated between Pamlico sound and the Ocean; consequently extremely healthy. The mump prevailed here the past spring, among all ages, but was not fatal in any case. Along Bogue sound & white Oak the land is higher than in other parts of the county. there are large quantities of sea weed deposited on the shore of sound which in some seasons renders it quite unhealthy. The growth is chiefly black oak and pine.
